Le théâtre des choses

Claude Cahun
Solo show

This online project aims to shed light on some lesser-known aspects of Claude Cahun’s practice through works from the gallery’s collection.

Born in 1894, Claude Cahun was a visionary and multifaceted artist, closely associated with the Surrealist movement. They are particularly known for their photographic self-portraits in which they stages themself.

However, their artistic practice goes far beyond that. Accompanied by their partner Marcel Moore and following the Surrealist movement, they created several small théâtres de choses (theaters of things): works in which objects are staged, often repurposed or removed from their original context or function.
